Bluegrass? Country? Deliverance?
July 5th, 2006 | by scott |Anyone able to recommend any music like the song linked below? This is a cover by Johnny Cash of an old standard called ‘Wayfaring Stranger’. The violin at the beginning absolutely haunts me…I get cold chills every time I listen to it.
In the movie ‘Cold Mountain’, Jack White (of the White Stripes, Raconteurs) plays similiar music…but the soundtrack doesn’t have any of that (at least the partial s/t on itunes doesn’t).
I know it’s a nice Appalachian style of music that borders on Bluegrass, but everything I am finding sounds way too contemporary and is usually more fast paced.

Hey. Give Nickel Creek a try. Their first album is what some people call “newgrass”. I really like the music that these kids put out. For a trio of teenagers from So. Cal., they really know how to play.
Their newer stuff fades away from the true bluegrass “feel”, but I think it’s still great music. Many of the tracks, both new and old, give the “the chills” too!
