XP running on a Mac?
22 03 2006Indeed. As the entire internet is aware, the guys over at www.onMac.net have made the dual boot dreams of Intel Mac owners everywhere come true. Just a scant few days ago, they paid a community donated bounty of over $13,000 to a developer who found a way to dual boot both XP and OSX on an Intel based Mac.

And it works…boy howdy does it work. My Macbook Pro (1.83) is running like a charm, with everything except iSight, and a few other little things working perfectly. I’m typing this post in Firefox on XP right now.
In just a few minutes, I’ll have to reboot and log into OSX so I can do a little Filemaker work (have I mentioned that I hate Filemaker?)…all on one perfectly designed computer machine thingy.
I have to say, even Windows runs and looks better on a Mac. Despite some video driver issues, I’m at 1440×900 x 32b resolution, and man oh man does it look good. Everything is crisp and bright and it makes my Dell X1 look like garbage.
This is such a cool project, and the ramifications are vast; right now we supply all of our salespeople with a Mac and a PC to demo product. Within a few minutes of having my installation done, I had our product running on the Windows partition and the Mac partition. I can see a day when i buy a Macbook, a copy of XP and send them on their way, $1000 cheaper than before…and only one machine to break/lose/destroy.
It’s a win-win for everyone except for Dell and their ilk. MS makes money off the license, Apple makes money off the ‘book and I SAVE money by having to buy only one machine per user.
Suck on that, Dell!
