Holy ulterior motives, Batman!
27 04 2006WASHINGTON (CNN) — Every American taxpayer would get a $100 rebate check to offset the pain of higher pump prices for gasoline, under an amendment Senate Republicans hope to bring to a vote Thursday.
However, the GOP energy package may face tough sledding because it also includes a controversial proposal to open part of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to oil exploration, which most Democrats and some moderate Republicans oppose.
Did I read that right? They’re going to buy off Americans with a $100 rebate in exchange for raping our national resources?
Let’s do some basic math here:
130 million taxpayers (2003 numbers)
x
$100 = $13,000,000,000
13 BILLION dollar. Would that money not be better spent developing alternate methds of energy? What about this: make the grant $1000 for anyone who buys/converts their vehicle to a hybrid/alternate solution.
My simple mind can’t grasp how this is a good idea in any way, shape or form. The money spent on processing the checks alone will be in the millions.
Not to mention that $100 is a drop in the bucket. I’m paying $20 per week than I was last summer…that generous rebate is going to help me for about a month. I’m fortunate I’m in a positin where that $20 doesn’t make or break me, but for petes sake, $100 is an insult.
Argh. I’m moving to Canada.
