HP iPaq hw6500 SmartPhone

23 02 2006

One of the projects I am currently working on for work is to find a GPS system we can standardize on for our roaming sales force. We have around 50 remote users who travel all day, every day to every podunk village in the US.

In the past few weeks i have tested several devices (will post about them later I guess), but today i received an HP iPaq 6500 phone/pda/gps from Cingular. Don’t get me started on Cingular, but anyway, yeah, i got the device and am going to be testing it for a few days minimum.

First impressions:
No mapping software included. Costs $129 more! VERY crappy.
Nice bright screen…but square, which is unusual for a PPC device.
Screen cover is a good idea I guess..we’ll see after a few days.
Nice little keyboard with a backlight button and caps lock (!)
No wifi! Sheesh.
Decent software bundle included aside from no mapping stuff.
And finally, for me the worst thing: No auto mounting hardware! Not even a car charger! Do they not realize that people use these in their cars?

Le sigh.

more later.
:)

Let it snow…

Yeah, a whopping inch of snow doused our area yesterday, closing schools, slowing commerce and making driving on the roads a hellish adventure…seriously, you haven’t tried to drive until you’ve done it in the South; this is a blizzard for a majority of the population here.
:)

Makes me kinda long for Ohio and Iowa; now THAT was snow!

More winter wonderland pics…

I drink too much coffee…

So I was looking over my transaction details for PayPal for last year. On another of my sites, I have software available for download for a $1 donation…it is my ‘mad money’ I guess…I spend it using my PayPal debit card.

Anyway, looking through my transaction log for last year, I spent a whopping $378 at Starbucks. Maybe I’d be better off buying a machine and doing this.

That’s a lot of VENTI NON-FAT CARAMEL MACCHIATOS. Or as my wife calls them, ‘chunky monkey ottos’.
:)

Oh, I forgot this was here!

Long time, no update!

Been a hell of a year so far…we moved offices after the fire in December, and that went fairly well. Been working my butt off at work trying to get caught up…so much so that it’s pretty much been all I do anymore.

Except for getting older and more decrepit. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed this bizarre knot on the knuckle of my right hand. A visit to the Dr. later and BAM: surgery.

So now, two weeks to the day after the surgery, I can only use my thumb and pointer finger effectively. Makes typing hell, and even the simplest tasks becomes insanely convoluted…I can’t imagine the hell an amputee has.

Anyway, if you like gross pictures, have a look.

Gross!
Turns out that Arnie was right: it’s not a tumah, but merely a cyst that overcome the sheath of my knuckles tendons.

In other news, it was discovered during the pre-op that my blood pressure was amazingly and disturbingly off the charts…at the time of the pre-op, it was 171/121. We watched it over the weekend, and it stayed about the same for 4 days…the afternoon of my surgery though, I went to my Docs and got onto some prescribed stuff; since then, I am at a much more reasonable 140/85 typically. Yay genetics (and being 25 lbs overweight and old)!!!

Getting old, my friends, sucks.
