CNN reports…
Acknowledging the energy situation is a “crisis,” U.S. Energy Secretary Sam Bodman said Sunday it could take three years before drivers get relief from high gas prices.
“The suppliers have lost control of the market and therefore, demand exceeds supply,” Bodman said.
“Clearly we’re going to have a number of years — two or three years — before suppliers are going to be in a position to meet the demands of those who are consuming this product.”
Let me get this straight: Bush and Congress are shocked at what’s happening and they want an investigation, butt his guy comes out and not only explains the problem but has estimates on how long it will last?
Maybe he has some ideas about how long we’ll be in Iraq also…

Stephen Colbert was a speaker at the White House correspondence dinner last night, attended by celebrities, politicans and the President. Colbert presumably made a few enemies in the upper echelons of the administration during the show (assuming that the handlers explained the jokes properly).
No matter what happens to America, she will always respond by staging the most powerful photo opportunities IN THE WORLD!
The beauty is that he was able to say what 68% (and climbing) of the population wants to say, directly to the Presidents face. And he got paid for it.
If you don’t watch the Colbert Report (11:30p EST, Comedy Central), you should. The combination of The Daily Show and Colbert are the most subversive and ‘truthy’ shows on television.

When the president was asked at a Rose Garden question-and-answer session whether the anthem should be sung in Spanish, he replied: “I think the national anthem ought to be sung in English, and I think people who want to be a citizen of this country ought to learn English and they ought to learn to sing the national anthem in English.”
Hey dillhole, do you realize that most Americans can’t speak proper English, but that these ”people’ you are referring to can speak not only Spanish but in most cases, English also?
How dare you tell them they can’t celebrate their love of this country, founded by immigrants, by singing in their native dialects!
Being a citizen and a patriot doesnt mean you have to have the freaking American flag tattooed on your back and drive a Chevy truck, you soul-less ingrate.
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Every American taxpayer would get a $100 rebate check to offset the pain of higher pump prices for gasoline, under an amendment Senate Republicans hope to bring to a vote Thursday.
However, the GOP energy package may face tough sledding because it also includes a controversial proposal to open part of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to oil exploration, which most Democrats and some moderate Republicans oppose.
Did I read that right? They’re going to buy off Americans with a $100 rebate in exchange for raping our national resources?
Let’s do some basic math here:
130 million taxpayers (2003 numbers)
x
$100 = $13,000,000,000
13 BILLION dollar. Would that money not be better spent developing alternate methds of energy? What about this: make the grant $1000 for anyone who buys/converts their vehicle to a hybrid/alternate solution.
My simple mind can’t grasp how this is a good idea in any way, shape or form. The money spent on processing the checks alone will be in the millions.
Not to mention that $100 is a drop in the bucket. I’m paying $20 per week than I was last summer…that generous rebate is going to help me for about a month. I’m fortunate I’m in a positin where that $20 doesn’t make or break me, but for petes sake, $100 is an insult.
Argh. I’m moving to Canada.
