The person

Scott McDaniel is a 38 year old father of three (all girls) who is IT Director for the North American branch of a multinational, $100m education company. All of my girls are bright, attractive and fairly well adjusted, despite their father.

He is also lucky enough to have been with the same wonderful, beautiful and patient women since way back in 1993. He’s hoping to someday be able to pay her back for turning him into a grown-up.

He enjoys programming, nerdery, geekery and speaking of himself in the third person. His favorite things include:

  • Guinness beer (not so much these days - it interferes with the sleep medication)
  • Cigars - Gurkha, CAO, Cohiba mostly, but he’s still developing his palette.
  • Coffee - coffee has water, so I drink all the water a day I need to…
  • Ambien - finally, I can sleep through the night. I wonder if the coffee has anything to do with it?
  • iPhone - don’t listen to what I tell you. Go buy one now. Seriously.
  • Music of all sorts…
  • Movies - the stupider the better…

There are other things, but I can’t think of them right now because I am old and feeble. Sigh.

The site

The site is powered by Wordpress. It’s an amazingly flexible piece of software. I use it on SEVERAL sites, and am constantly thrilled to find some cool new way to tweak, hack, spindle, fold and mutilate it.

I currently use Dreamhost for this domains webhosting. I’m pretty happy with them overall. They have a wonderful culture that exudes humor, which I certainly appreciate. They have some issues with larger traffic sites (like BGM), but for the money, it’s tolerable.
